TOUR OVERVIEW
  • We meet in the exotic city of Marrakech to explore the traditions and foundations of Morocco's flourishing contemporary art scene in the many museums, galleries and collections including - The Museum of Berber Life, Dar Si Said, Heritage, Yves Saint Laurent Museum and Tiskiwin. Experience visual overload in the labyrinth of souks and observe the cross fertilisation of styles and designs between African, European, Islamic and indigenous Amazigh and Tuareg art. We begin to create in the first of our hands-on workshops including sourcing our materials in the souks. You'll be inspired by the beautiful gardens, the architecture of the palaces and riads and the people that make up this dynamic city both past and present - 5 nights
  • A day of spectacular terrain, as we travel across the legendary Atlas Mountains via the High Pass. We see glimpses of their snowy peaks and explore the fading beauty of the El Glaoui Kasbah. Winding our way through the pigment-rich Ounila Valley into the Anti-Atlas desert region of southern Morocco. Many visual challenges, for those who work with landscape, observing the effects of Morocco's light and discovering new colour palettes - 1 day
  • We settle in the date palm oasis of Tamnougalt on the banks of the river in the Draa Valley. Here we step back in time and experience the real Morocco and unlimited inspiration; exteriors and interiors of traditional homes and ancient kasbahs, sunsets over the valley from their roof terraces, quiet walks in the palm gardens, the bustle and excitement of the weekly souk and starry nights of Berber music and dance. The perfect place to explore and experiment with traditional media in a number of workshops designed to achieve a sense of place. You'll work with a range of natural materials, locally sourced - 5 nights

  • Travelling west, through the landscape of the Souss Valley, south of the Atlas Mountains to Taroudant - 1 night
  • We make our way to the Atlantic ocean and take the coast road north to the ancient seaport of Mogadore, now named Essaouira - amid the calling of Atlantic gulls and the fresh salty air we take walks on the beach, indulge in fresh seafood and quiet shopping. Plenty of stimulating subjects to work with; the town's ancient ramparts, it's famous blue felucka fishing boats, colourful alleyways, Essaouira's entertaining cats and the UNESCO listed medina. There are lots of artists in this town; we discover their studios, gnaoua music and yet another angle on Morocco - 5 nights
